Chapter News HOG chapter #4813 is sponsored by: Spartanburg Harley-Davidson October, 2000 |
Director: Dave Jacobi
Fall is the time of year when a young man's thoughts turn to ..riding Harleys. I love the mountain riding when the leaves are turning and the air is cool. This is also the time of year when we need to concentrate on a new team of officers for next year. Nominations will be open at our October meeting and elections will be in November. Your voice and your vote is important so plan to attend the meetings. Don't be afraid to run for an office or volunteer for a committee position. We have many talented people within our membership .
The Chapter Challenge is in October and if you want to have a day of fun and meet other HOG members from the Upstate, plan on attending. .
When you are out enjoying riding you Harley's and the good fall weather and color, remember to .
Ride with Pride,
Dave
Do You Know??
Which male club member has taken female hormones? Have you noticed
anyone whose voice has raised an octave or two or maybe is developing
in places where no man should?
If you don't know the answer but would LIKE TO KNOW, this editor
can be bought if the price is right. I will also FORGET the answer
if a better price is offered.

Customer Appreciation Day
Update
Come on in, step right up, and enjoy the food and drink. That's how everyone was greeted at Customer Appreciation Day, Saturday, September 9th. For the third time this year the Coleman family has had free food and drinks for every customer that came through the doors of Spartanburg Harley-Davidson. Everyone seemed to enjoy it as much as I did. At the end of the day we had served almost 200 hot dogs , ten gallons of tea, 5 gallons of lemonade, and 100 bags of chips. As Randal locked the doors of the Harley Shop we discussed the 35th anniversary coming up in November. This event promises to be larger than the Customer Appreciation Day BBQ last June. Wow!! So don't snooze and lose. Be sure to mark your calendar for Saturday, November 18 . Come to Spartanburg Harley-Davidson for special prices, great food, and fellowship. What a way to celebrate the 35th Anniversary and kick off the winter holiday season
Thanks again Randal!!

Ladies of Harley
September meeting was held at Vinus Pie. Good pizza and conversation. Start planning now for our October ride to Blowing Rock, N.C. The day will start with breakfast at The Rimel's at 9:30 then off to the mountains. Lunch in Blowing Rock and some light shopping and more riding with great mountain scenery. Overnite stay is a personal preference. Look for flyer at October meeting for more detailed information. Hope we have a good group for our last LOH ride in 2000. Leathers will be a must and RSVP so no one will go hungry for breakfast. November 14 meeting will be held at Thai Taste on Hwy. 295 and our December 5 meeting will be a dessert party and cookie exchange. Keep these dates in mind.
Ride Safe,
Phyllis
Update: Whitten Center Porker Run
2000
Before we could get set up at Buckshot Racing, the rumble of motorcycle engine filled the air. Bikes and bikers of all ages and description were lining up to ride Friends of Whitten Center Poker run 2000. They were anxious to get started on the 96 mile run go before the day got hot. By noon 1,200 riders had left Buckshot Racing. They roared from one stop to another ending at Cherokee shrine Club in Gaffney, S.C.
As the festivities got underway the temperatures
soared and so did the suspense. Who had the Best Hand?
Who had the Second Best? Who would win the motorcycle? Who would
win the 50/50 and the door prizes? At last the announcement came
over the P.A. system. Jennifer Moss held the best hand. Jennifer
won $1,000 plus a Myrtle Beach vacation. Jennifer and husband
Jeff are Spartanburg HOG members. Second Best Hand was held by
David Blain of Wellford. David won $500 plus a Myrtle Beach vacation.
The 50/50 jackpot was $396 and door prizes totaling hundreds of
dollars were given away.
At last it was time for the Sportster drawing. Sarah Gantz of Rock 101 drew the winning ticket. Everyone was silent J. C. Solesbee no response came from the crowd J.C. Solesbee The winner was not present. Mr. Solesbee would be contacted by phone.
The auction was a big success, raising approximately $5,000.
Just as clean-up began a very happy J.C. Solesbee drove into the parking lot to claim his motorcycle. He had his son with him and trailer in tow. There were handshakes of congratulations and pictures were taken. Mr. Solesbee is a member of Mid-City shrine Club. He informed us that he had only bought 3 tickets ($10 worth) last November. He had never owned a motorcycle before. He said he is going to ride this one.
Whitten Center Poker Run 2000 was a huge success, but only because of the joint efforts of so many people. Thank God for a day without rain. The slight breeze and few clouds helped to make the 98-degree almost tolerable. Thanks to Buckshot Racing and Cherokee shrine for the use of their facilities, to Rock 101 and Chesnee Communications for some great promotions, and to Whitten Center Parent's Club, who are always willing to help. To the hard working volunteers who worked the stops (many of whom are Spartanburg HOG members.) Thanks to our local and out of state merchants for the many door prizes and to the 160 T-shirt sponsors. Last, but not least, thanks to all the riders for enduring the heat.
If you liked this poker run, you'll really enjoy Whitten Center Poker Run 2001. There are plans to have even more ways to win big bucks and to have a few vendors set up to accommodate the tired and thirsty biker.
The money that has been raised throughout the year and from the actual poker run will be presented on stage at the annual Whitten Center Fall Necessity Run on November 5, 2000, that's the first Sunday in November.. The check will be in excess of $61,000. We are so proud to be able to do this for those so deserving. Pray for good weather so there will be a huge turnout. So until then,
Keep your eyes shaded from the sun and your
bike tuned for the runs.
Thanks again,
David Pugh
P.S. We hear Mr. Solesbee has a new name, "Evel
Knievel" is what he is known by at Mid City. They also say
they are taking donations to buy him some training wheels. "Be
careful Mr. Solesbee and try to stay out of your wife's flower
bed."
