"Remember, when you ride, "Ride With Pride"

I bought my first bike, a Triumph, in 1965, but I
bought my first real bike, a Harley, in 1995 and I have been enjoying the
Harley experience ever since.

"Go to the rain and turn left."

Growing up in Switzerland I dreamed of owning a Harley someday, I have owned 3 since. I started riding at the age of fourteen and rode most all of the Swiss Alps, so the twisties in the Blue Ridge Mountains suit me just fine. I have served the chapter as Head Road Captain for two years. I was the Events Coordinator for the 1999 SC State HOG Rally and am the SC State HOG Rally Coordinator for 2000. I ride a 1997 Heritage at the present and plan to fulfill another dream of owning a Road King someday.

"May all your rides end rubber side down"

I began riding on a Norton 750 Scrambler in 1969. I really loved that machine and put about 20,000 miles on it the first year. I rode it through out my collage experience at the University of Georgia until I sold it in 1975. I longed for a motorcycle until I purchased a 1992 FXLR Low Rider Custom in October 1996. My wife rode behind me until she was able to purchase a 1999 XL Hugger 883, that I recently converted it to a 1200. We really enjoy our machines and love the members of the Spartanburg HOG.

Chaplain
Rev. Jim Jackson

"Riding a motorcycle is like sailing: you can embrace the wind and
yourself in quite thoughts."

Jim Jackson was born in Tampa, FL. on 12/1/40; though, of course he
looks much younger. He attended public schools in FL.., graduating from
Chamberlain High School in 1959. It would have been in 1958 except that he liked the fourth grade well enough to do it twice. Jim's first HD came in
l955 when he was 14. It was a 125 cc with rubber band suspension. It nearly cost him his life when he laid it down one night to escape hitting a train. Jim married Linda Peel, a hometown girl whom he's known all of his life. Upon his graduation from seminary in l973 with a Doctorate in Ministry, Linda presented him with a new Honda, four-cylindered 350. Jim is pastor of Cedar Spring Baptist Church. He and Linda have two children, a daughter, married with two children, and a son, married, with one son.
A favorite quote from Helmut Thielicke:
"...the man (meaning preacher) who bores others must also be boring himself. And the man who bores himself is not really living in what he--so
boringly--hands out."

Note from The Web Wench: Jim is truly one of the coolest people in our chapter!

"Just ride and enjoy the wind in your face."

I Was born in the Midwest, Wisconsin to be precise. Dave & I met when I was 19 and he was riding Triumph's. Through the years we have had other bikes and I always loved to ride. Our move to South Carolina meant that we needed to have a bike again. This time a Harley. I enjoy riding (as a passenger) and will continue to ride as long as I am able.

"People are like motorcycles, each are customized a bit differently."

Lynn -- I started riding bikes in the early 1980's. I have owned 2 Honda's. After Tamara and I married, I sold my Honda 1000 Custom. I have always dreamed of owning a Harley, so I finally purchased a 1999 Heritage Softail and absolutely enjoy riding. I have found out there are alot of caring and great people in the club who enjoy good fellowship and good times.

Tamara--I first started riding my brother's dirt bike back in the late 1970's. After Lynn bought his Harley and we rode for a while, I got the itch to have my own bike. So now you will see me on what I call my "Honda-Davidson" 600 Shadow. I am working on getting "A real bike" OK! We both enjoy all of our friends in the group and the wonderful smiles and laughs we all share together.

"Motorcycles Saved My Life"

I started my riding adventure only a few years ago when I took the Beginner's Riding Course. I knew nothing about riding a motorcycle, except that I had fallen in love with the sound of the V-twin engine and the feeling of the wind blowing against my face. Riding a motorcycle has been the greatest fun of my life. I have ridden to Daytona Beach, traveled through the Bad Lands on my way to Sturgis, South Dakota and the desert leading to Laughlin, Nevada. I have ridden through snow storms in June ; crossed the Big Horn Mountains, and zigzagged across the Bear Tooth Highway going to Red Lodge, Montana . The biggest question in my life is
now….where will I ride to next.

"ride safe + ride smart = ride forever"

I've been riding since 1979 and logged 55,000 miles since 1994 (13,000 on a Sportster in 18 months). I believe in safety, have had 2 - MSF courses and yes- I've been down (in 1979). I am very involved with HOG and have
held most officer positions in HOG since 1994.

"if you ride like there's no tomorrow, there won't be"

My husband, Rob, and I were both born in a small historic fur-trading town along the Mississippi River, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. In highschool during the mid 60's, Rob rode a 1948 Harley Davidson and I was there.
After almost 32 years of marriage, we've had years of both no motorcycles and those "other kinds". Since Rob's 50th birthday, we now ride together on his 1995 1200 Sportster.
One year of the Harley in winter sotrage was enough of Wisconsin and we decided to move to SC. I've since been retired after a 30 year career as a Medical Technologist in Microbiology. Now I volunteer as a Master Gardener and for a spay-neuter organization, Animal Allies. I davocate, "don't litter, spay-neuter".

"Never say Never"
My first introduction to motorcycling was approximately 1950 when my Uncle pulled in to the yard with his HARLEY! The shiny thing just facinated me. So I touched the pipes. OUCH!! But I was branded mentally for life. Not old enough to own one, I later had to drool as my friend rode into school on a nice white sporty in the mid 60's. Years past and things came and went but not the desire to have one of those thundering machines. After learning on several different other models and a long hyatis the time
came. I DID IT!! I purchased my softail custom and my wife & I were off to a whole new word for the meaning of "LIFE."

"Ride Safe"

I have been riding for 5 years and love everything that pertains to Harley Davidson and riding, especially camping and rallies. Rallies would definitely include bike games and everyone knows I love bike games! I own a 94 Springer and hope in the future to do more cross country rides like the Wild Wild West Ride. I have 3 daughters who all like to ride and hope someday to own Harleys.

"And miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep"

I ride a '92 peach & cream Heritage named "Faith". She was a Christmas present in 1998 and is now one of my best friends. We have over 17,000 many miles together. Faith and I have been to Canada and back in 5 days with 42* high temps and rain the whole way. Last summer we rode through Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, & Arizona for 16 days, however, we both agree riding on Route 66 has been our highlight so far. I'm the Webmaster for the SC & WV State HOG Rallies and Chapter Road Captain. Chapter Editor '98; Historian '99; Road Captain '99/'00. If you see a peach & cream heritage on a roadway somewhere wave, it's probably me & faith.

"See you on the road"

I've been riding motorcycles since I was 11 years old. I got my first
street bike at 15. I've been riding ever since. I always rode Jap Bikes
until I bought my Harley. I never knew motorcycles could be so great until
we met all of our friends in the Hog Chapter. In the real world I am the
Operations Coordinator of Spartanburg EMS. My wife Iris and both of our
children, Luke III and Emily, love riding and hanging out with our
motorcycle friends. When I'm not riding my motorcycle I enjoy flying , scuba diving, and going to races. I am the Registration Coordinator for the 2000 State HOG Rally.
