LINC Project
Funded in August of 1999 by the United States Department of Justice, the LINC Project set out to provide the communities in which STV works with a central location to meet, organize, and access information and technology. This project evolved from community input that stated barriers to communication were hampering the development and success of community efforts. STV took these ideas and successfully compiled them into a grant.
The LINC Project is a completely community led initiative in which the communities make the decisions in planning and implementation. As stated in the grant "the goal of the LINC project is to reduce violent crime by institutionalizing a structure through which solidified communities can act." Basically, the theory is communities that come together to work, play, and/or plan are more solid and therefore more safe.
The project has four main objectives:
1. Provide a central, constant place that would serve as a communication nexus.
2. Provide technical assistance and staff support to the communities.
3. Maintain community involvement and participation in community events.
4. Maintain feelings of commonality among the residents and a sense of pride and belonging to the community.
