ANTI-PROSTITUTION
MARCHES
Prostitution, “The oldest profession in the world”
according to most people, plagues some of our neighborhoods. This activity drains communities of vitality, creates
negative stereotypes that are difficult to overcome, and decreases property
values for hardworking homeowners. While
some may say this has been around forever, there is no reason why it should stay
around forever. “STV” saw quick
success when one of the neighborhoods in which they work organized and
implemented a march. One quick tip
to always keep in mind when organizing against prostitution is “TO BE
SUCCESSFUL YOU HAVE TO DISRUPT BUSINESS AS USUAL”.
Marches are a great way to do this.
Here
are some important steps:
1.
Engage the entire community in these efforts: Residents, businesses and
the Faith community are all essential partners.
2.
Plan the route for the march. Hint:
Best routes are in prime prostitution areas.
3.
Enlist the support of Law Enforcement.
This is helping to make their job easier.
4.
Set date, times, routes, etc., and advertise.
5.
Invite government officials, community leaders and other influential
people.
6.
Send a press release to all local media outlets.
Be sure to articulate the problem as well as the community generated
solution. Hint:
continue to make follow-up calls, press coverage is very important.
